Washington is asking about data center deals.
The big money already moved.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren is questioning BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield and KKR about their data center deals, Axios reports. Alexander Green's briefing covers a little-known fund near the center of the AI buildout.

KEY TAKES

  • The Fed held at 3.75% to 4.00%, as expected. Futures now put a December hike near 85% (CME via CNBC).
  • Memory chips led after SK Hynix's profit jumped more than sevenfold: MU +4.4%, SOXX +1.2%. Megacaps lagged into Microsoft and Alphabet's after-the-bell reports: META -1.4%, TSLA -1.2%, MSFT -0.8%.
  • Bloomberg says an Elon Musk-backed startup is heading for a blockbuster IPO; one analyst names it (From Brownstone Research)
  • The real money moves were single-stock: Genmab on a cancer trial, Axogen on a beat, Ultralife on a cash deal.

The Fed held its rate at 3.75% to 4.00% at 2 PM ET, the call futures had priced at about 93% (CNBC). Nobody is treating it as relief. Futures put a December hike near 85%, Thursday's PCE is expected to show inflation rising to about 3.7%, and Warsh still has to explain at 2:30 why the Fed hiked in September and held now. SPY is +0.17% and QQQ +0.15% as of 2:05 PM ET.

Oil kept climbing (USO +2.8%) and the 10-year yield sat near 5.02% (CNBC). Earnings did the damage at the single-stock level: F5 -19.6% on a slower growth outlook despite a beat, Enphase -17.2%, Robinhood -4.0%. Vertiv +14.6% is the AI-infrastructure name that paid.

TODAY'S TOP 5 GAINERS

1 · ULBI +145.9% · $15.64. EnerSys agreed to buy Ultralife for $16.00 a share in cash (Business Wire Oct 27 4:31 PM ET). Deal stock, about 36 cents under the offer. ENS is -1.8%.

2 · BOOM +40.4% · $7.51. DMC Global posted Q3 adjusted EPS of 48 cents vs 10 cents expected (The Fly Oct 27 4:23 PM ET). Real beat on a ~$153M company.

3 · LUNG +33.3% · $2.64. Pulmonx returned to revenue growth, Q3 $22.8M vs $21.9M expected, and Stifel lifted its target to $4. Small cap, but the numbers are there.

4 · GMAB +32.1% · $59.00. Genmab's Phase 3 LiGeR-HN1 trial cut the risk of death 50% in first-line head and neck cancer. A ~$36B company at an all-time high. The move of the day.

5 · AXGN +28.6% · $48.18. Axogen Q3 revenue rose 26% to $75.8M, adjusted EPS 21 cents vs 13 cents, and it raised 2026 guidance to at least $290M (GlobeNewswire 7:02 AM ET).

THE SIGNAL

The Fed held, and the market is pricing the next hike anyway. That leaves earnings to carry stocks, and money is paying for proof. Memory chips with a supplier's profit print behind them got the bid while the AI spenders drifted lower ahead of their own numbers. Exposed: Microsoft and Alphabet, which now have to show cloud growth that justifies the capex with the 10-year near 5% and a December hike near 85% priced.

Wrong if: Warsh signals no December hike and yields drop, or Microsoft and Alphabet both rally after hours on capex raises without faster cloud growth.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

“Federal Reserve keeps rates steady”

CNBC | Oct 28, 2:00 PM ET

The hold was expected. What matters is the roughly 85% odds of a December hike now in futures, with PCE inflation due Thursday morning.

ONE TO WATCH

MSFT (Microsoft) reports Q3 after today's close, alongside Alphabet (Reuters). Last $527.22, -0.77% as of 2:05 PM ET. Chips rallied on SK Hynix while the AI spenders slipped, so Microsoft's Azure growth and its capex number decide which side was right. A big capex lift without faster cloud growth is the bad mix.
