Elon can build rockets and satellites.
He can't build the minerals inside them.

Dr. Mark Skousen says a U.S. defense restriction on certain magnets and strategic materials from China expands across the full supply chain on January 1, 2027. He has flagged a small company pursuing rights to mineral-rich seafloor nodules, plus two other stocks tied to compute and satellite communications.

THE CLOSE

Traders kept selling stocks priced on AI payoffs years out and moved into businesses that earn now, led by energy. Crude jumped after Trump said the U.S. may have to target Iran's Pickaxe Mountain. Factories beat (industrial production +0.7% vs +0.4% expected) while the NY Fed services index fell to −20.7. SPY closed 763.25 (−1.11%), QQQ 709.80 (−2.50%), DIA 519.10 (−0.38%), IWM 270.44 (−1.69%). The 3 PM read held. QQQ finished lower than at 1:20 PM, and VXX kept most of its gain, closing +7.61%.

MONDAY'S SETUP

~6:30 AM ET. Fifth Third (FITB) reports Q3 results, call at 9:00 AM ET. It's the first regional bank of the week, after CoreWeave's debt made credit the week's worry.

Before the open. Cleveland-Cliffs (CLF) reports. A steel read right after the September industrial production beat (+0.7% vs +0.4% expected).

10:00 AM ET. NAHB homebuilder sentiment for October, prior 32. A housing read with the 10-year still near 5.08%.

After the close. Steel Dynamics (STLD), Zions (ZION), Western Alliance (WAL), and W. R. Berkley (WRB) report. Steel Dynamics tells you about steel demand; Zions and Western Alliance tell you about regional-bank credit.

ONE TO WATCH MONDAY

STLD closed $240.54 (−0.09%). It reports after Monday's close. Factories ran hotter than expected in September, so this first big steelmaker report shows whether that strength is turning into orders and pricing. The stock finished flat while the Nasdaq Composite fell 2.2%. The tell: does Steel Dynamics guide Q4 shipments or pricing higher, and does the stock hold Monday's close level after hours?
