- Into the final hour the Dow leads (DIA +0.89%) and healthcare is the bid (XLV +2.4%). Chips lag after TSMC's Q4 margin guide, out before the open.

Wholesale prices ran at the fastest pace in more than four years, and the bond market bought anyway. Thursday's PPI, out at 8:30 AM ET before the open, rose 1.3% on the month versus 0.6% expected, with core up 0.7% versus 0.3% (MT Newswires, 12:38 PM ET), and retail sales beat at 0.8%. The 10-year still fell 9.7 basis points to 5.09%.
As of 1:18 PM ET, with the bell still at 4:00, DIA is up 0.89%, IWM 0.76% and SPY 0.12%, while QQQ is down 0.57%. Chips are the drag after TSMC's Q4 margin guide, which the AM letter covered (TSM −2.5%, AMD −3.7%, INTC −4.1%).

TODAY'S TOP 5 GAINERS
1 · AMOD +37.4% · $1.91 · Nasdaq. A six-month AI pilot in three Alabama grocery stores with Greer's Markets (GlobeNewswire, 8:22 AM ET). Noise-prone: a pilot is not revenue, and on Tuesday it registered 103.24 million shares for resale.
2 · NCPL +36.1% · $2.16 · Nasdaq. Regained Nasdaq's minimum-bid compliance (MT Newswires, 7:16 AM ET). An AM name with about a $17 million cap. It removes a delisting threat and adds no revenue.
3 · VSTM +17.7% · $9.07 · Nasdaq. VS-7375 posted a 41% confirmed response rate in pancreatic cancer at its R&D day, and RBC ($19), BTIG ($24) and Alliance Global ($22) raised targets (MT Newswires, 12:27 PM ET). RBC flagged the small patient count.
4 · RXRX +14.3% · $4.28 · Nasdaq. Early REC-1245 data and a Sanofi option on a drug candidate (MT Newswires, 9:46 AM ET). It is up even after pricing a $200 million stock sale.
5 · OPK +14.1% · $1.56 · Nasdaq. Labcorp is buying BioReference lab assets for $722 million plus up to $150 million in earnout (MT Newswires, 8:16 AM ET). A large-cap buyer writing a check, pending approval.
Noise: WETO (+32.4% at $1.10) paused its share-sale program, which stops selling but changes nothing in the business. BBCI (+32%) and RGC (+31.9%) have no fresh company news.

THE SIGNAL
A hot PPI that lowers hike odds changes who gets paid. Rates eased, and money into the final hour went to what earns now: healthcare (XLV +2.4%), the Dow (DIA +0.89%), small caps (IWM +0.76%) and banks that beat on adjusted EPS (USB +1.9%). Schwab is the exception, down 2.8% after revenue came in a hair under estimates ($7.17 billion vs. $7.18 billion) and full-year guidance landed at the low end. Exposed if this read fades: chip names priced for expanding margins (TSM, AMD, INTC, SMH) and debt-funded AI builders, with CoreWeave's five-year CDS at a record 1,194.5 basis points intraday (Bloomberg via MT Newswires, 11:56 AM ET). Next hard number: J.B. Hunt after the close.
Wrong if: The 10-year gives back the drop and is back above 5.18% by the 4:00 PM ET bell, or SMH turns green while XLV fades.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY
“Update: Equities Mostly Higher as Investors Parse Retail Sales, Wholesale Prices Data”
MT Newswires via QuoteMedia | Oct 15, 2026 12:38 PM ET
Energy costs drove the jump in producer prices, yet the 10-year fell to 5.09% and October hike odds dropped to 29% from 33%. The bond market is marking an October hike as less likely, not bracing for one. Energy stocks still lagged (XLE −1.52%) with WTI up 2.6% to $97.55.

ONE TO WATCH
JBHT · $234.05 (+0.81%) · reports after today's close. Zacks says trade margins in Thursday's PPI widened partly on freight and transportation costs. J.B. Hunt is the first big freight report since, and Benzinga's estimates are $1.81 in EPS on $3.58 billion in revenue. The tell is whether it passes fuel costs through on price or eats them.
