A former tech executive found what he calls the perfect tech stock.
It checks all five of his boxes.

Jeff Brown looks for a breakthrough that can change an industry, a wall of patents (this company holds 150), sales Wall Street expects to more than triple, and a small size. He says this one is about as big as Nvidia was in 2016, and he is watching a November 11 catalyst. See all five boxes.

KEY TAKES

  • QQQ +1.41% vs DIA and IWM at +0.42%. That spread is chips (SOXX +2.46%, Nvidia +2.36%).
  • SPCX +8.7% on a Q3 beat. Its AI unit turned an operating profit. TSLA +3.6% into its report after today's close.
  • Tesla gets the robot headlines, but one trader is tracking five smaller suppliers instead (From Millionaire Publishing)
  • Percent leaders are mostly noise. INVE's tender is the only hard bid. Abbott is −4% on a cut 2026 outlook. Alphabet is −1.7%.

SpaceX's quarter revived the AI trade, and the Nasdaq leads into the final hour. As of 1:17 PM ET, QQQ is +1.41%, SPY +0.66%, DIA +0.42%, IWM +0.42%. Chips lead: SOXX +2.46%, Nvidia +2.36% at $221.58.

SPCX is +8.7% at $160.70 on a Q3 beat late Tuesday. Super intelligence revenue rose 830% y/y to $7.56B, and the unit is operating-profitable. Dell is +4.8% at $483.90. Musk also said SpaceX and Tesla have set up independent committees to weigh a merger, so TSLA is +3.6% going into its own report after today's close. Oil is softer (USO −1.6%). The 10-year yield slipped to 5.11%. Abbott is −4% on a cut 2026 growth outlook. Alphabet is −1.7% ahead of next week's earnings.

TODAY'S TOP 5 GAINERS

1 · AMOD +67.4% · $2.16. Alpha Modus. Bitcoin holdings above $250M, potential $225M more cash, ARIA plan for 20,000+ locations (8:15 AM ET). Noise-prone: ~$124M cap, 83.7M shares, lots of potential.

2 · AHT +40.8% · $2.52. Ashford Hospitality Trust. A $17M fee waiver plus a quarterly buyback (SeekingAlpha, 6:17 AM ET). Real cost relief. A ~$16M hotel REIT on 26.1M shares can swing either way.

3 · INVE +23.7% · $2.75. A $20M tender (SC TO-I, 7:46 AM ET) that could retire nearly 30% of shares, plus preliminary Q3. The only hard bid. Watch the tender price vs. the tape.

4 · YMAT +16.9% · $2.35. J-Star. Oct 19 deal to buy a Houston-area plant, on today's premarket gainers list. Noise-prone: ~$9M cap, two-day-old news.

5 · ASST +12.3% · $30.39. Strive. Upsized $630M SATS preferred listed on Nasdaq Tuesday, new 8-K today. Bitcoin-treasury. Moves with crypto sentiment more than its own numbers.

Noise: Three of five (AMOD, AHT, YMAT) are sub-$3 names on tiny floats. INVE's tender is the only hard price. Leveraged SpaceX ETFs (SPCH, SPCF, LOFF and others) were excluded.

THE SIGNAL

SpaceX showed AI revenue at real scale, and buyers went straight back to chips and Dell into the last stretch (SOXX +2.46%, Dell +4.8%). Who's exposed next: Tesla. A merger premium is partly priced in (TSLA +3.6%), with Q3 due after the bell. A deal needs 50% of all shares, the hurdle Musk flagged.

Wrong if: Tesla's report after today's close disappoints and TSLA gives back today's 3.6%, which would say the merger talk was carrying the stock, not the business.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

“Stock Market Midday, Oct. 21: Tech Gains Lift Nasdaq as SpaceX Soars”

Motley Fool | Oct 21, 12:56 PM ET

Nasdaq was up 1.09% at 11:41 AM ET, the S&P +0.52% and the Dow +0.29%, with the 10-year at 5.11%. QQQ is +1.41% as of 1:17 PM ET. Dell was about 6% higher early and is +4.8% now.

ONE TO WATCH

TSLA (Tesla) · $386.97 (+3.55% as of 1:17 PM ET) · reports Q3 after today's close, Wed Oct 21. Up 3.6% on merger talk, and down nearly 14% this year (MT Newswires, 10:02 AM ET). The tell is whether the business holds up without the merger story.
