Speculation is running hot again, like 2000 and 2021.
One overnight setup works away from the noise.

Goldman Sachs has flagged the rush into penny stocks and one-day options. This overnight approach skips that crowd. It looks for high-probability patterns and works with small accounts. See how it works.

KEY TAKES

Yesterday's tech selloff moved to the Dow into the last stretch. As of 1:20 PM ET, DIA is -1.13% while QQQ holds +0.24%. SPY is -0.40% and IWM is -0.34%. Oil crossed $100 on fresh U.S.-Iran fears (WTI up $3.61 to $103.08 per Baystreet; USO +3.5%, XLE +2.4%) and the 10-year yield touched 5%.

Financials led the drop (XLF -1.4%), with Dow component American Express -4.0% after a slight revenue miss and a 5% workforce cut. Chips bounced (MU +3.5%, SOXX +0.9%). Gold slipped (GLD -0.8%). VXX is +2.8%.

TODAY'S TOP 5 GAINERS

1 · AIOK +178.8% · $11.85. Declared a $3.50 per share special cash dividend after the sale of its LPG carrier Dream Arrax. Mostly mechanical: a $3.50 payout on a stock that was about $4.25 yesterday. The dividend comes out of the price on the ex-date.

2 · BOLT +65.4% · $6.93. Agreed to acquire Prana Therapies with a $120 million concurrent private placement to fund PRA-216 in inflammatory diseases. Real money behind it, but the placement adds shares. Watch where the placement was priced.

3 · CLRO +62.5% · $3.12. No company news found on the wire as of 1:20 PM ET. Pure noise until a filing or release shows up.

4 · BKYI +31.4% · $3.60. Day three of the run after Thursday's Middle East government security contract. Third straight day up on one contract. Nothing new was announced today.

5 · RHI +20.7% · $45.48. Q3 revenue of $1.359B and its first year-over-year EPS growth since 2022; JPMorgan and Baird raised targets. Signal. An established company showing a turn in hiring, though Jefferies still rates it Underperform.

THE SIGNAL

Two companies talked about AI today and the market gave them opposite answers. American Express cut 5% of its workforce to prepare for AI and is down 4.0% at $312.17 as of 1:20 PM ET. Robert Half, a staffing firm, said AI makes human screening more valuable and is up 21% at $45.48. AI talk alone didn't hold AmEx up. Revenue growth is what got paid today, and AXP's top line came in light ($20.06B vs $20.12B). Who's exposed: other financials pairing AI language with a soft top line (XLF -1.4%), and staffing names if the hiring turn holds.

Wrong if: AXP closes back above $325 (roughly where it opened the day) by Monday, or RHI gives back half of today's gain next week.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

“American Express Misses Third-Quarter Revenue Views, Plans 5% Global Workforce Cut”

MT Newswires | Oct 23, 12:25 PM ET

EPS beat ($4.68 ex-gain vs $4.48) but revenue was $20.06B vs $20.12B, and the CEO said 5% of staff go, with a $336 million restructuring charge. The stock is down about 4% and is dragging the Dow into the final hour.

ONE TO WATCH

USO (United States Oil Fund) · $168.25 (+3.53% as of 1:20 PM ET) · Fed rate decision Wed Oct 28. Oil crossed $100 today and USO hit a new 52-week high. A rate cut is widely expected. Oil holding over $100 into that meeting makes a cut harder to justify.
