Private money put $242 billion into AI in one quarter.
Most of it skipped the chipmakers.

Alexander Green has watched capital cycles for 40 years. He says this wave is heading for what he calls Phase 2 AI companies, and that public markets are always last to catch on. See where he thinks the money lands.

KEY TAKES

  • The Dow and small caps are doing the lifting today, not tech. QQQ is barely green.
  • Outlooks are the grade. Raise it and you get paid; trim it and a beat won't save you (ask GM).
  • Tim Sykes says the closing bell is where a different kind of trade starts (From Millionaire Publishing)
  • BRZE is a $47.50 cash takeover, upside capped. MYGN has the real catalyst. SAIQ, WORX, and HOST are noise-prone.

Earnings, not tech, are carrying the tape into the last stretch. As of 1:20 PM ET, the Dow and small caps lead (DIA +0.95%, IWM +1.60%) while QQQ is flat at +0.09%. S&P and Nasdaq were red earlier (MT Newswires, 12:59 PM ET). Crude slipped: WTI −0.7% to $102.99.

Underneath, chips are quiet (SOXX +0.2%, Nvidia flat) after last week's sharp selloff. Banks are bid (XLF +1.0%), so are utilities (XLU +1.2%), and bonds firmed a little (TLT +0.6%). VXX is −1.4%. Equifax +10.1%, Hasbro +8.6% and 3M +5.8% are the earnings leaders.

TODAY'S TOP 5 GAINERS

1 · SAIQ +59.8% · $5.45. FOSSA 6U satellite on a SpaceX Falcon 9 (GlobeNewswire, 8:00 AM ET). Noise-prone: launch PR on a ~$160M name, second day.

2 · BRZE +51.5% · $45.50. Salesforce cash takeover at $47.50 a share (MT, 11:51 AM ET). Upside capped. Four downgrades followed (Oppenheimer, William Blair, Cantor $47.50, Barclays $48).

3 · WORX +46.6% · $3.93. Second day on a new health-system data-management deal (GlobeNewswire Oct 19). About 71M shares traded on a tiny base. Noise-prone.

4 · MYGN +37.1% · $5.77. Labcorp buying the prenatal unit for $210M cash (The Fly, 12:58 PM ET). Now above both targets (Piper $5, TD Cowen $4.50). Real catalyst.

5 · HOST +36.9% · $2.63. $15M buyback (GlobeNewswire, 8:15 AM ET), a day after holders were cleared to sell 45.39M shares and a 52-week low Monday. Noise-prone.

Noise: AIXI +40% and ATGL +39% printed with no company headline in QuoteMedia. Left out.

THE SIGNAL

The market is grading the guide, not the quarter. GM beat on EPS and revenue and is down 8.3% because it trimmed the top of its 2026 range. GE beat and raised and is still −4.2%. EFX, HAS and MMM raised and are up 6-10%. Who's exposed next: Netflix, Intuitive Surgical, and United Airlines print after today's close (MT). A beat with a soft outlook is getting sold today. Money moved to the Dow and small caps (IWM +1.6%) while the Nasdaq barely moved.

Wrong if: IWM gives back its lead and finishes the day behind QQQ.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

“Update: US Equity Indexes Rise as Strong Quarterly Results Help Lift Risk Sentiment”

MT Newswires | Oct 20, 12:59 PM ET

S&P and Nasdaq were red earlier. Earnings beats plus crude easing to $102.99 flipped the tape. The Dow was +1% as of that print, leading the session into the final hour.

ONE TO WATCH

ISRG · $438.25 (+1.17% as of 1:20 PM ET) · reports Tue Oct 20 after today's close. Expected Q3 EPS $2.13 (US Earnings Reports). Today's tape sells soft outlooks, so the full-year procedure-growth guide is the number.
