Gold broke $5,000 this year and outran the S&P 500. JPMorgan now calls it a core holding and has raised its forecast to $6,300. A short guide shows how people add gold to an IRA or 401(k) without opening a new account.

KEY TAKES

Bonds rallied through two hot prints, so the selling was about when profits arrive. CPI on Wednesday (Oct 14) beat estimates, with core up 0.3% against 0.2% expected (BLS via MT Newswires). PPI on Thursday (Oct 15) was the hottest in more than four years (MT Newswires). The 10-year still fell about 10bp to 5.09%.

Chips fell anyway. After TSMC guided fourth-quarter gross margin lower, PHLX semis fell an eighth straight session Friday (−3.8%) as crude surged (MT Newswires, 4:41 PM ET). XLE rose 2.52% Friday. Nasdaq posted its first weekly loss in five weeks (AP).

THE WEEK'S TOP 5

1 · TCRT +234.7% · $2.63 · Nasdaq. Velaris closed with about $350 million, cash into 2029, now a pulmonary arterial hypertension company, proof-of-concept data expected in 2028 (24/7 Market News, Oct 16). Fairmount holds 19.99% and plans four of five board seats (MT Newswires).

2 · XLAB +141.3% · $2.35 · Nasdaq. An $8.2 million Nvidia GPU server order for Sunon (MT Newswires, Oct 16, 7:27 AM ET). Noise-prone: a small order on a company now worth about $149 million.

3 · BMBL +133.9% · $5.94 · Nasdaq. Ithaca cash buyout at $6.05, about $1.3 billion, roughly 138% over the Oct 9 close (MT Newswires, Oct 13). Since Tuesday, 8 to 12 cents under the cap.

4 · LQDA +25.5% · $34.35 · Nasdaq. A United Therapeutics settlement and a BTIG upgrade (SeekingAlpha, Oct 14) cleared the Yutrepia legal overhang. About a $3.7 billion cap, the least noise-prone of the five.

5 · BSP +23.8% · $47.07 · Nasdaq. Berkshire added $330 million, stake to 4%, after $600 million at the July IPO (MT Newswires, Oct 14). Friday gave back 15.6%.

Noise: JBDI and NCPL ran on no real news (a 52-week-high note and a 6-K; Nasdaq bid-price compliance). Inverse ETFs stayed off. They are the chip drop in reverse.

THE WEEK'S SIGNAL

Money did not leave stocks last week. It left anything priced on AI profits that arrive later and moved into what earns now: energy, utilities and staples. Most exposed into Monday Oct 19: chips after TSMC's margin guide (AMD −5.95%, MU −5.63% Friday), debt-funded AI like CoreWeave, and small caps (IWM −3.05% on the week).

Wrong if: QQQ gets back above Thursday's close of about $728 before Netflix reports Tuesday Oct 20 after the close, while XLE gives back its weekly gain.

HEADLINE OF THE WEEK

“Top Midday Stories: CPI Rises 3.7% YoY in September, Topping Estimates; BofA Shares Fall on Treasury Fine, Earnings Misses”

MT Newswires | Oct 14, 2026 11:37 AM ET

That print pushed October hike odds to 49%. A day later PPI ran hotter still, the 10-year fell anyway and the odds slid back to 29%. When bad inflation news stops moving bonds, traders have priced the Fed and start asking what stocks are worth.

THE TAPE LESSON

These are different kinds of moves. BMBL is a finished deal under $6.05. TCRT is a new company, +188.6% then −31.7%. XLAB is a small order on a tiny company. LQDA is the only one where a lawsuit went away. Ask which kind it is, and what is still unknown.
