Tesla may be the wrong stock
for the robot wave

Elon Musk has said Optimus could be worth more than Tesla's entire car business. In past tech waves, the smaller suppliers often did better than the headline name. One trader who tracks where institutional money flows before price moves has flagged five small companies in the path of the robotics build. Two of them trade under $4.

KEY TAKES

  • All four indexes red into the final hour on mixed bank prints and SOXX's sixth straight loss.
  • C −3.62% after a beat. JPM is green after missing EPS $5.57 vs $5.93 and raising 2026 NII to $106.2B. JNJ −5.97% on a guide below consensus.
  • Nasdaq may shut the overnight trading window one trader built his system on. See how it works (From Millionaire Publishing)
  • TCRT +241.9% on a Velaris deal plus $350M convertible preferred (dilution). BMBL +56.1% trades under its $6.05 cash deal.
  • BAC Q3 Wed Oct 14 ~6:45 AM ET (call 8:30 AM ET). CPI same morning, 8:30 AM ET.

Q3 season started on the bank prints that hit before the open, and the indexes are still red heading into the bell. As of 1:37 PM ET, session open until 4:00 PM ET: SPY 777.22 (−0.11%), QQQ 741.72 (−0.58%), DIA 516.17 (−0.34%), IWM 276.52 (−0.49%). Semis did the other half: SOXX is down a sixth straight session after midday, MU −5.4% on China's CXMT claiming a DRAM breakthrough. The 10-year is 5.23%, down 1 bp. Energy is firm: XLE +1.2%.

TODAY'S TOP 5 GAINERS

1 · TCRT +241.9% · $3.59 | ~206M | Nasdaq. Closed the Velaris Therapeutics deal with a ~$350M private placement. That money came as convertible preferred, so dilution is baked in. Lab-stage biotech, noise-prone.

2 · BKYI +85.2% · $3.06 | ~74M | Nasdaq. Added another Middle East government security agency as a customer. It was +191% pre-bell and has given back more than half of that pop.

3 · PFAI +77.8% · $4.64 | ~35M | Nasdaq. First bench-scale fermentation of recombinant human lactoferrin. Lab stage, no revenue yet. A first test, not a product.

4 · BMBL +56.1% · $5.93 | ~84M | Nasdaq. Ithaca Holdings all-cash deal at $6.05 a Class A share, $1.3B. Trades ~12 cents under $6.05. That spread is time and closing risk, not upside.

5 · FRMI +19.5% · $3.88 | ~64M | Nasdaq. AMD credit-support on the 222-MW first phase of its Texas Panhandle Project Matador. Evercore: financing still to be secured.

Noise: JBDI, FLYE, and JYD printed with no same-day catalyst. Tiny floats moving on volume alone.

THE SIGNAL

This tape pays for guidance, not beats. Citi beat EPS ($2.85 vs $2.65), lifted full-year NII, and still trades −3.6%. JPMorgan missed EPS by 36 cents ($5.57 vs $5.93) and is green because it raised 2026 NII to $106.2B. Johnson & Johnson beat and sits −6.0% on a 2026 adj EPS guide of $11.05-$11.15 vs $11.19 consensus. BAC reports Wednesday ~6:45 AM ET, and it and the regionals (KRE −0.9%) get graded on the NII guide. Wells Fargo already showed an NII miss gets sold (−1.66%).

Wrong if: Citi climbs back to green by the 4:00 PM bell while JPM fades red.

HEADLINE OF THE DAY

“Top Midday Stories: JPMorgan Shares Rise Despite Q3 Miss; J&J EPS Guidance Undershoots Estimates, Shares Fall”

MT Newswires via QuoteMedia | Oct 13, 2026 12:00 PM ET

JPM missed the quarter and rose on the NII raise. J&J beat the quarter and fell on a full-year guide below consensus. That split is why Citi is red and JPM is green heading into the bell.

ONE TO WATCH

BAC · $54.01 (−1.0%) · Q3 Wed Oct 14 ~6:45 AM ET (call 8:30 AM ET). After Tuesday, the read is NII outlook: JPM got paid for raising it, WFC got sold on a miss. CPI prints 8:30 AM ET the same morning, the same minute as the call.
