Tame inflation did the heavy lifting today. July CPI printed 3.4% on the year and just 0.1% on the month, right on expectations, and that was enough to swing the September call back toward a Fed that sits still. The S&P 500 added 0.3%, the Nasdaq 0.6%, and the tape leaned tech.
The real fuel came from earnings. A cluster of AI-infrastructure names reported overnight and gapped hard, and that's where today's list lives. One housekeeping note: these gainer numbers are as of this afternoon's session, not the final tape. Here's the signal from today's session. 👇

📈 TODAY'S TOP 5 GAINERS
1 · CRWV
+18%
CoreWeave narrowed its loss per share and met revenue estimates for the quarter; the neocloud trade is still bid.
|
2 · NBIS
+16.5%
Nebius Group's AI cloud revenue rose nearly sixfold to $582.3M, beating estimates, with four contracts averaging more than $1 billion apiece signed in the quarter.
|
3 · CAVA
+16%
Cava Group beat Wall Street on Q2 results, a reminder the fast-casual Mediterranean growth story still has legs.
|
4 · HRB
+12%
H&R Block topped fiscal fourth-quarter estimates as tax-prep demand held up better than the Street feared.
|
5 · SMCI
+9%
Super Micro beat on earnings and guided first quarter higher, though revenue came in light.

🎯 THE SIGNAL
Four of these five moved on earnings, not headlines. This is an earnings-season list, not a news list. Three of them (CRWV, NBIS, SMCI) are the same AI-infrastructure trade, and Nebius is the tell: contract value nearly quadrupled while it poured $5.7 billion into capex to keep up. Cava and H&R Block are the outliers that prove the rule, because buyers rewarded any clean beat today, tech or not. The catch with earnings gaps is that the move already happened before you saw it, so what matters now is whether they hold.

📊 THE HEADLINE THAT MATTERED
July CPI came in tame, and the Fed's September call swung back to "hold."
Consumer prices rose 0.1% in July and 3.4% year over year, matching forecasts, with core at 2.5%. Energy prices eased for the month even with the Middle East simmering. After a near 50-50 split the day before, traders moved their bets toward the Fed leaving rates alone in September.
A soft inflation print is oxygen for long-duration tech, which is exactly where today's buying went. Watch the other side, though. Oil is back near $90 on the Strait of Hormuz blockade, and if energy reheats the next CPI, the hold thesis gets shaky. The tape is trading the good news; the risk is sitting in crude.

👀 ONE TO WATCH TOMORROW
🖥️ Super Micro Computer
(SMCI)
Super Micro jumped about 9% after beating earnings and guiding first-quarter revenue above views. The catch sits in the top line: revenue came in short. So you have an upbeat outlook stapled to a soft print, and the stock gapped anyway.
Why it's the watch: A mixed print like this doesn't settle in one session. The guidance bulls and the revenue-miss bears are still arguing, and today's gap is where they meet. That's an unresolved setup, not a resolved one.
The tell: Confirmation would look like SMCI holding today's gap on real volume tomorrow. If it fades back through the gap and volume dries up, the revenue miss is winning. Let the stock prove it first.
