MARKET SIGNAL REPORT
POWERED BY STOCKSTOTRADE  ·  THE SUNDAY SETUP
SUNDAY, AUGUST 16, 2026   NEXT WEEK: Fed minutes Wed   WMT earns Thu   RDDT joins S&P Tue   S&P record 7,800+

The market walks into Monday at all-time highs with a story to defend: cool inflation killed the September hike. Next week is the cross-examination — the July Fed minutes land Wednesday, and the committee that produced them had three members voting to raise.

Add Walmart's read on the consumer Thursday and Reddit entering the S&P 500 Tuesday, and Monday's open has plenty to prove. Here's the setup for the week ahead. 👇

📅 THE WEEK AHEAD

TUE · REDDIT JOINS THE S&P 500
RDDT enters the index before Tuesday's open after jumping 10% on the news. Index funds have to buy — the question is who's selling to them.
WED · JULY FOMC MINUTES
Three members dissented in favor of a hike at the last meeting. September hike odds fell to roughly 34% from 55% after cool CPI and PPI — Wednesday shows how loud the hawks really are.
THU · WALMART, DEERE, ALIBABA
Walmart before the open is the first big consumer checkup since July payrolls shrank by 23,000. Jobless claims and Philly Fed land the same morning.
ALL WEEK · OIL ABOVE $83
Strait of Hormuz reopening hopes keep fading. Energy is the hawks' best argument, and it prints on every gas station sign.
🎯 THE SETUP SIGNAL
The week's whole tension fits in one line: cool CPI says hold, $83 oil says hike, and Wednesday's minutes tell you which way the committee actually leans. Don't front-run that answer at record highs — the tape gives it to you Wednesday afternoon, and there's a full trading week after it.

🏦 THE THEME ON WATCH

The "no hike" trade is the most crowded position on the board.

Two weeks ago, markets priced a September hike as a coin flip. Then July payrolls shrank by 23,000, CPI held at 3.4%, PPI came in soft, and the odds collapsed to about a third. The entire record-high run rests on that repricing.

That's why Wednesday matters more than a minutes release usually does. If the hawks' case reads stronger than expected — with $83 oil handing them ammunition — the crowded side of the boat gets tested fast. Rate-sensitive groups are where it shows first: small caps, homebuilders, unprofitable tech.

👀 THREE TO WATCH MONDAY

1 · Reddit  (RDDT)
Thursday's 10% pop on S&P inclusion is unresolved. Index buying hits by Tuesday's open — then the flow is done. If the gap holds through the actual add, real buyers are behind it. A hard fade Tuesday afternoon says it was a one-flow trade.

2 · Quantum  (QMCO)
Up 82% on the week and still holding the entire earnings gap. Digestion looks like quiet pullbacks on shrinking volume. A heavy-volume break back below the gap day's range would say the re-rating is finished.

3 · Cisco  (CSCO)
Down almost 9% Thursday on earnings, the Dow's worst name. The day-two tell: a higher low this week means sellers are done. A lower low on rising volume means the report broke the trend, not just the price.

The rule: None of these needs you Monday at 9:31. Let each one prove it first.

See you at the next signal. 📡
