Qualcomm's soft phone-chip guide lit an AI/semiconductor derating and the complex did not bounce. SMH closed 447.73 (−11.21%), QCOM 156.75 (−9.49%), NVDA 181.60 (−9.26%), and Nasdaq led the dump with QQQ −6.49%.
Cash-flow winners still printed greens on the same tape. APP closed 356.10 (+31.04%) and EPAM 165.70 (+20.63%) while the AI build names were sold.

THE CLOSE

SPY closed 733.00 (−4.41%), QQQ 647.05 (−6.49%), DIA 514.27 (−3.53%), IWM 270.98 (−4.59%). Qualcomm's soft phone-chip guide lit an AI/semiconductor derating; SMH finished −11.21% and Nasdaq led while APP and EPAM kept their cash-flow bid. The 3 PM SIGNAL held: the AI build trade took the hit. Wrong-if (SMH clawback plus APP/EPAM giveback) did not fire. SMH worsened into the bell from the 1:42 PM −10% print; APP and EPAM kept the gains.

AFTER THE BELL

LITE Lumentum closed 509.70 (−18.68%) on Marvell-deal overhang and chip-tape pressure. After hours it was about $515, +1.0% versus the close, as of ~5:00 PM ET (Public.com). Earnings already printed November 2 with the deal.

TOMORROW'S SETUP

8:30 AM ET. October jobs report — nonfarm payrolls, unemployment rate, average hourly earnings.

10:00 AM ET. University of Michigan consumer sentiment preliminary (November) plus inflation expectations.

Before the open. Earnings: Moderna (MRNA), Humana (HUM), Vistra (VST), PPL, Charter (CHTR), Franklin Resources (BEN).

Fed speakers. Williams, Musalem, Bowman, Logan on the calendar.

After the close. BH and HE report.

ONE TO WATCH TOMORROW

VST (Vistra) reports before the open Friday, Nov. 6. It is an AI-power demand name into a jobs Friday after today's semiconductor wipeout. The CLOSE watch was NVDA; that print is in. Friday's tell is whether the power-for-AI story still gets paid after the chip complex just got derated.
