Washington is running short on money.
Guess where it looks next?

Governments that go broke tend to take from their own people. It has happened before, and it’s starting to look familiar.

The Department of Justice recently argued that the money you hold isn’t legally your property. Under that view, Washington has the power to freeze savings and reach into retirement funds almost overnight.

Sound far-fetched? Look at the record:

  • Cyprus, 2013. The government took private savings overnight to pay for a banking bailout.
  • Argentina, 2001. People woke up to frozen deposits and a forced currency devaluation.
  • The U.S., now? The DOJ’s position sets up the same playbook.

There is a way to get ahead of it. A short Wealth Defense Guide walks through 3 ways to keep your savings out of Washington’s reach.

Futures are bouncing after last week’s tech selloff. SPY is up 0.5%, QQQ 0.8% and IWM 0.6% (~07:30 ET). AMD and Nvidia lead the chips higher, while oil slides about 3% ahead of Tuesday’s midterms.

THE HEADLINE THAT MATTERS TODAY

Apple reports tonight, and the holiday guide is what the market will trade.

SeekingAlpha via QuoteMedia · Nov 2, 2026 07:12 ET. “Earnings Day: Can hardware rescue Apple from Big Tech’s AI hangover?”

The Street is looking for $1.98 a share for Apple’s fiscal fourth quarter. Palantir also reports after the close, with $0.32 expected. Apple sits near $344 before the bell, roughly flat.

The setup is touchy. Stocks slid hard last week after the big cloud spenders disappointed, and a Jefferies note called tech earnings one of the week’s biggest catalysts. Apple’s December-quarter outlook is now the main read on whether hardware demand can carry the group.

Who’s exposed: anyone heavy in the Nasdaq 100, where Apple is one of the largest weights. AMD, Arm and Qualcomm follow later this week.

Next: the ISM manufacturing read, then the midterms on Tuesday and payrolls on Friday.

Wrong if: QQQ gives back today’s premarket gain before Apple reports. That would say buyers still don’t trust the tech bounce.

TOP PRE-MARKET MOVERS

1 · INO +240% ($2.05). The FDA granted accelerated approval to Inovio’s Voceryq for adults with RRP, a rare airway disease, and H.C. Wainwright upgraded the stock to Buy with a $5 target (The Fly, MT Newswires).

2 · PERI +31% ($11.37). Perion agreed to be bought by Affle for $11.70 a share, about $420 million, with a 40-day window to shop for a better bid (MT Newswires).

3 · CLRO +68% ($5.74). ClearOne is bouncing after a 31.8% drop in the prior session. No fresh news is out (MT Newswires).

Levels as of ~07:30 ET. Market values run near $210 million for INO, $450 million for PERI and $15 million for CLRO. PERI is now pinned near the $11.70 deal terms, and CLRO is tiny and moving on no news, so handle both with care.
