THE CLOSE

Monday closed at SPY 778.10 (−0.06%), QQQ 746.04 (−0.70%), DIA 517.91 (+0.35%), IWM 277.90 (−0.37%). Money kept leaving tech for energy and the banks, so the flat S&P hid a rotation heading straight into earnings. Did the 3 PM read hold? It held. QQQ never got back to flat, −0.70% versus −0.76% at 1:34 PM ET. USO kept more than half its gain, +1.91% after +2.52%.

AFTER THE BELL

At 4:05 PM ET, J&J posted three-year Phase 3 GALAXI 2/3 data: TREMFYA (guselkumab) held clinical and endoscopic remission through week 144 in Crohn's, hours before Tuesday's report.

Before the open. UNH, JNJ, and DPZ report Q3. They share the morning with the banks. JNJ already posted the Crohn's data.

Wed Oct 14, 8:30 AM ET. CPI and core CPI. BAC, MS, and BLK before the open. Exposed if it runs hot on oil: QQQ and the chip names, the side that lost Monday.

ONE TO WATCH TOMORROW

GS closed 893.95 (−0.15%). It's the trading-heavy print of the group, out ~7:30 AM ET Tuesday. Q2 EPS was $20.98 on $20.34 billion net revenue. Tell: does GS hold its pre-market reaction through the 9:30 AM ET call, which starts with the opening bell?
